Winter Solstice is upon us. The first day of the Season of Winter is also the shortest day of the year, when the Sun is the farthest south and the length of time between Sunrise and Sunset is the shortest of the year.

The rainy season is here recharging the aquifers, widening rivers and filling reservoirs. The hillsides, with their cool season grasses are coming to life, fallen leafs are this years mulch providing nutrients for trees and plants, and habitat for beneficial insects.

The oak trees are drinking, creeks are flowing, the latent buds of the magnolia are beginning to swell and Narcissus bulbs are beginning to peaking out, providing a glimpse into another winter show.

Enjoy the solitude of every raindrop, the whispers in the wind and earthworms in the gutter. Make sure to check out all the textures and cool greens dancing in the garden - they are everywhere you look.

Take in a hike or a bike ride and keep an eye out for spring.
